A western Colorado resident for most of her life, Mavis Bennett is the publisher of the Montrose Monitor. She has written for newspapers and magazines more than three decades and founded the popular Monitor Magazine in 2003. This web site is the logical progression for the Monitor.
Dave Segal, a Detroit native, has been a journalist since 1977. He has worked as a reporter, commentator, and news director at radio stations in Detroit, Denver, and Montrose.
Dave has been writing and editing for the Monitor since its first print issue in 2003. He is editor and senior writer for the digital magazine. On the side, Dave has also done freelance writing, media relations, and a variety of volunteer work.

Peggy Carey squeezes her writing in between feeding animals, practicing law, and volunteering. She lives in Coal Creek with four dogs, two cats, six chickens and two recalcitrant donkey.

Jamie Gann grew up in Montrose and recently returned to teach writing at Centennial. Her first Monitor writings came via the South American travel blog her family kept during their sabbatical year. She has also written for The Crested Butte News, Radical Family Sabbatical, Gringos Abroad, and Outside In Travel Magazine. She has always had a love of words, which is only surpassed by her love of family. She is primarily a mom to two boys, for whom there are no words beautiful enough to describe.

Ellen Roberts is the Senator for Colorado District 6 which encompasses Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma, Montrose, Ouray, San Juan, and San Miguel counties. In 2015, she was elected to serve as the President Pro-Tem for the Colorado State Senate.

Suzanne Cheavens is a writer, poet, songwriter, and editor who has called the Telluride Valley her home since 1985. The mountains have been a fertile ground for her literary, musical, and theatrical endeavors, all of which she manages to do often at once. Married with two grown children and a grandson, she delights in the natural world, the longevity of her favorite guitarist, Keith Richards, and the dance of the written word.

Oley Z. Lysiak has worked at everything from a truck driver to a reporter, a restaurateur to a reclaimed wood broker. He participated fully in the wild days of "hide it up in Telluride" in the '80s. He lives in Oregon with his wife.
